The Happiness Of Being Mundane

Ai Is Boring
Work, sleep, work, sleep. T_T [info]doubt72 and friends were in Shibuya drinking on a Friday night, but I was stuck at work. Akudaikan invited me to do some DDR in Ouji, and I had to decline, sadly! Some days, this sucks. *whimpers*

The Happiness Of Being Mundane
I shouldn't complain, though. I got to hang out with Doug from a little after 1pm to almost 5pm--close to four hours, just sitting across each other in Wendy's, him doing data-entry into his kanji flashcard program (he programmed it himself! *_*) on his Powerbook, me reading LJ on Saeki. He was nice enough to switch seats with me so I could get at the power outlet, too.

We occasionally heckled the piped music (mostly horrific, but once or twice not too bad). He made snide comments about the lack of logic in Japanese grammar, he teased me more than I managed to tease him (need to sharpen my wits after letting them get blunt). I went on food runs (okay, I did that once, and really, it was more of an excuse to stretch my legs). We didn't do anything special--I was just happy he'd cared enough to actually bring his laptop so he could be with me and still get work done.

I was happy this afternoon, and just thinking about it makes me happy again. Today was a good day. ♥

Weekend
Hanging out with [info]doubt72's friends after work! Sunday seems to be a quiet day, sadly, unless [info]kevinsensei makes good on his plans to visit Tokyo.

Astrology
I need to get a thank-you card to [info]doubt72's friend, who made up a HUGE astrology report for me (birth chart personality report). It was one of those reports you see on sale on astrology websites for anything from $20 to $60... really amazing thick stack of paper. O_o I hadn't thought the friend to be this interested in astrology, either! The report didn't say anything I haven't seen in astrology websites for free (though it did so in considerable detail), but it's the thought that counts, and I'm sure Doug's friend had better things to do than make up an astrology report for his classmate's girlfriend. ^_^

I have come to the conclusion that the great majority of my recent angst is the result of my inability to stop working, ever. I don't know how to combat this, but even the realisation has made me feel a lot better. I like to have problems to work on, which is, itself, the problem. When the weekend insanity is over I will think about this some more.

Tomorrow is Mum's Christmas in July party, so I've been cleaning all day. I took all the keys out of my computer keyboard and washed them, and now that I've put them back it is exceptionally difficult to type, rar. I've been cooking almost non-stop this week, testing out recipes. Tomorrow I'm doing the Christmas pudding. It's been a lot of fun, in an exhausted sort of way. I have discovered the chicken pot pie recipe to rule them all. Pies (and soup; tonight I tested and rejected a pea and ham recipe from one of my Grandma's old Women's Weekly cookbooks) are my very, very favourite.

I bought Le Petit Prince in French from the Foreign Language Bookshop, and I can read bits of it! I am surprised and pleased. I remember when I bought Stéphane Reynaud's Ripailles at the beginning of the year and being completely baffled by it. ("WTF is a légume?") I'm very proud of myself.

All right, I'm going to bed.
I'm soooooooo excited about this episodes.. still didn't read the sides yet

The Museum of Information History, as an incorporated foundation created from Nobeyama's collection, differed dramatically from a public library. If the Improvement Committee attempted to censor the contents of the Museum, it would be considered seizure of the foundation's property. As a private library, the Museum had the right of self-defense given by the Law of Library Freedom. On top of that, depending on the precedent, it was possible that the Museum had the right to sue the Improvement Committee.

(Incidentally, in the case of public libraries, their books were considered public property, and the Improvement Committee's right of censorship extended even to public property. Thus the libraries couldn't use legal means to prevent censorship, and had to invoke their right of book defense and resort to direct combat.)

In light of the fact that raiding the Museum of Information History carried the possible threat of legal action, and the fact that public access to the Museum was limited, the Media Improvement Committee half-intentionally ignored the Museum's existence.

As a result, the Museum of Information History possessed a large number of documents that the Media Improvement Committee was wary of, and had passed the thirty years since its founding in self-created peace.

Until one day in late October, when that delicate balance was upset.

Former Nobeyama Group Chairman Nobeyama Souhachi Dies

Nobeyama Souhachi, the wonder consultant who chaired the Nobeyama Group and played a major role in its expansion from a general trading company to a diversified conglomerate, passed away on October 22 at 5:32 AM at an Odawara hospital. He was eighty-four. He hailed from Kanagawa Prefecture.

The funeral and farewell service will be held at the Nobeyama Funeral Hall at Azabu, in Tokyo's Harbor Ward, at 12 noon on the 26th. Leading the service will be Terazawa Taizou, director of the Nobeyama Group's public relations department. Nobeyama Masatomi, the deceased's eldest son and current chairman of the Nobeyama Group, will act as chief mourner.

Upon his retirement from the chairmanship, Nobeyama devoted himself to the administration of his private library in Odawara. It was decided that the library would close following his death.

The attention of the entire library world, as well as the Media Improvement Committee's camp, was riveted by that small obituary which ran in every paper.

~

"When the Museum of Information History closes, the Kantou Library Force will take custody of its entire document collection," Genda announced at an all-hands meeting of the Library Task Force.

The entire meeting hall fell silent.

Iku was the only one who wasn't aware of the situation, and the announcement went completely over her head.

"It's a private library in Odawara that collects news documents relating to the Media Improvement Committee!" Doujou, sitting behind her, flung out in a displeased tone. The timing of this supplemental explanation was perfect; he knew exactly what Iku did and didn't know.

"You mean you didn't know it!?" asked Tedzuka, horrified, from the seat next to hers.

"Why should I know some little backwater private library? It's not like I've been to Odawara that much."

"A Task Force member who doesn't know the Museum of Information History is just as absurd as one who doesn't know the Hino Library! You're unbelievable!"

New Bones Wallpaper

  • Jul. 9th, 2009 at 7:25 PM

I know I haven't been around much lately. Between my Dad's passing, making my garden, and visiting my daughter and grandsons in Colorado Springs for 3 weeks, I've been kinda busy. Also had to learn Wordpress so I could make my garden journal, then do all the art for that. The fanart muse just kinda went on an extended vacation, I guess, until...

About a week or so ago, I had Kenny Chesney's song "You Save Me" stuck in my head. For days, snippets just kept popping into my head. Couldn't get rid of it, even when I listened to it several times. Was watching some old Bones shows on my computer, and the muse just whacked me upside the head with a BIG cast iron skillet...Thus, this wallpaper was born. I'd seen this tut and thought the style would work for what I was trying to convey.

Preview under here. Spoilers for all seasons. )

You can watch Kenny's video here on CMT's site. Here's a Divx version (BIG file-166 mb), if you want it.

So let me know what you think. Feel free to use, just don't claim it's yours.
