Keeping this short and simple because I feel really awkward here: I'm in Singapore, but without steady computer access because my laptop is completely dead. The hotel business center is very nice and well-equipped, but public spaces have their limits, especially public spaces which are mostly occupied by rich people and stuffy employees.

I'm hoping to get the Thinkpad fixed here as it was, er, manufactured in Singapore, but in the interest of saving money might wait until we get back to Taipei later this week. So, um, not ignoring anyone, just really, really cut off from everything.

fjkfjk This entire situation is really frustrating. To the cactuscontinuum mods: I am so, so sorry - I thought I'd be able to access my files here, but that appears not to be the case. FORMAL E-MAILING LATER, feeling sorry for myself now.

On the bright side, after realizing my laptop was totally out of commission around last night, I went to Kinokuniya today and bought The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism, along with some Goffman and Feagin stuff and am going to spend the rest of my downtime on this trip being a sociology nerd. I already finished Two-Faced Racism, so I'm done with the self-flagellation. Next is, uh, berating myself for not paying more attention in Econ, I guess.

Toshokan Sensou 11: DSA:FJLSA:FJASORHJWQOTPHOPAFSHOF FUCK. FUCKFUCKFUCKFUCK NO. NEED 12 RIGHT NOW, UGHHHHH. fjfjjfjfklflgj,mcfkjg;jf

Macross Frontier 11: YESSS x1000 @ Alto character development. Really liked the ED too, though Nakajima Megumi's vocals are only really nice the first few times through. After that, the sheer lack of... anything gets to me.

Junjou Romantica 10: lol shinobu lol recycled yaoi plots lol crazy stalker uke. Miyagi, though, is officially my favorite character in this series.

Nijuu Mensou no Musume 9: holy JESUS he is hot fjffnngggggggg, also I hope this is not WWII we are talking about because then I'm dropping the show and snarling at it on my way out. I'm taking the lack of mentioning of nuclear bombs as a good sign in this regard.

Itazura na Kiss 1-11: SO CUTE. I WANT MORE. Preferably with less Irie-being-a-jerk. I guess ItaKiss is like Rose of Versailles in that whenever I see shoujo troping I have to remind myself that it wasn't troping when the story was first written.

Mnemosyne 5: Dude, I fucking love the Maeno family. Also, on a scale of 1-10, this episode pretty much hit 9000 for complete insanity. I thought it was going to be the first non-obscene episode in the OVA series, and then the last fourth happened. Then it became the most obscene episode yet. >_> apos made me WTF like, dude, WTF, yo. At least the opening sequence is starting to make sense (I'm wishing it didn't make sense, because my eyes, they will never be clean again)

For my own reference, what I'm following with raws: Toshokan Sensou; subs as they come out, Nijuu Mensou no Musume, Itazura na Kiss, Macross Frontier, Junjou Romantica, Mnemosyne; marathoning when finished, Amatsuki.

I'm itchy from mosquito bites. Also, I'm having trouble accessing Livejournal proper (am updating via Semagic), so comment responses are on hold until Firefox stops being a jerk and telling me LJ has irreparable cookie problems. (i.e. when I get back to Taipei with the dumb, ancient computer... sigh)

I think my laptop's dying. The wireless has petered out, one USB port is completely broken, I have to pull things out and juggle plugs and shit just to make the bloody thing turn on, and it likes to randomly freak out for no reason whatsoever. A few days ago it point blank refused to turn on or recognize a power source for about thirty minutes before it suddenly whirred to life. Again, for no reason whatsoever. It's only two years old -- admittedly I abuse it like crazy and it's on almost all the damn time, but it's only two years old. My desktop's in better shape and it's nearing seven.

HATE PERMS. Blahghrhgh I want to wash my haaaaaairrrrrrrrr.

Toshokan Sensou ep 8: so amazing. All of the characters just got +1000 cool points. Especially Shibasaki, who has got to be the greatest example of her trope ever written. For starters, she's freaking amazing. A-and Doujou, so amazing super cool, and Kasahara, YES YES YES AWESOME, and even TEZUKA is interesting now. Lastly: SHIP SHIP SHIP SHIP SHIP SHIP SHIP SHIP SHIP SHIP SHIP

There are no words for how tragically hard I have fallen for this man. No, seriously, Sasazuka Eishi is like the most attractive human being ever to exist. Except for the part where he doesn't exist. I don't know, dude, there's just something really attractive about men who are obscenely talented with guns and have the emotional capacity of floating logwood.

I haven't done this in a while and have quite a lot to say, so just skip over this post if you don't care about any of the anime running this season. Spoilers run amok, and I'm for the most part completely caught up with these shows, so tread carefully.

MACROSS FRONTIER --> 8
Man, I ship Alto/Sheryl so hardcore now it's unbelievable I ever shipped Alto/Ranka in the first place. Ranka is cute and all, but I sense incoming chemistry with Brera -- while Alto and Sheryl are subtexting so hard it's practically supertext. Ranka deserves better than some pretty boy with flippy hair who probably has wet dreams about Sheryl, anyway.

Also... I can't be the only person making tragic D: faces over how Sheryl and Ranka are probably being cast in the Legend of Shin Kudo as Sara and Mao, right? B-because Sara dies, and I don't want Sheryl to die. (Also, the idea of Alto as Shin wants to make me giggle furiously, but Frontier has drawn way too many parallels between them already for me to ignore the fact that Shin went off to la-la-land at the end of his show.)

And I ship Michael/Klan like nobody's business. I CALLED IT FROM THE VERY BEGINNING! :B

As a side note, I am horribly amused by Michael's older sister complex because one of my oldest friends' name is Jessica. Her little brother? Michael. I honest to God laughed for at least thirty seconds when he said "my sister, Jessica." It threw off the rhythm of the moment, but it's not like I take angsty backstories seriously anyway. (The most excellent part is that Michael's AIM for the last few years has been a variant of 'sniper.' HILARITY? YES.)

I'm so psyched for where this show might go. I think it's waited too long to introduce some semblance of plot, given that it's slated for around 25 episodes (?), but I'm psyched anyway. I want more shiny backstory and bouncy Luca (seriously, that whole "Yay! My boyfriends are back together again! :3" bouncy skip thing he did was the cutest thing I have ever seen).

I also demand to know who Brera really is, because lolol his mobile suit looks like a Scizor. Also, because I kind of need a convenient boy to throw Ranka onto. Because she can't have Alto.

(I've taken to treating males as possessions. See, at school, most everyone's initial reaction to seeing a male student on campus is "I wonder who he belongs to?")

TOSHOKAN SENSOU -> 7
Firstly, I've been watching Ocha!Subs just to stay on top of things, but I've found that I might as well watch the raws, with how incomprehensible some of their translations are. Froth-Bite and Menclave are much more understandable, even if they do let the occasional grammar mistake slip in.

Basically, Ocha! sucks major ass. And I did give it an honest try. I'll keep torrenting the raws on Saturdays, I guess!

Anyway! Reasons why I love this show, and I mean love this show:

Doujou is adorable. Doujou is adorable. Seriously, he is my new favorite person. I love how overprotective of his friends he is, his professional side, his dorky compulsive side, and his TOTAL INABILITY to come to grips with his feelings. ANGRY CHIBI indeed, ahhhh best male protagonist ever ♥
Kasahara is also adorable. I can't help but be really annoyed with everyone who criticizes her for her tears and her apparent lack of strength, because you know what? Pretty much every other character in the show has had his or her chance to grow (excepting Tezuka), and it's Kasahara's turn. She is a strong female lead, but if she's strong and impervious from page one, then there's no point to the story.

Maybe I'm reading too far into things, but I see Toshokan Sensou as a coming-of-age story; primarily for Kasahara, but for the other characters as well. The difference is that Kasahara is seeing most of her character growth as the series progresses, whereas the others' stories come in flashbacks. Why is it not okay for her to cry? Why is it that women are considered weak if they show any emotion at all?

Doujou and Kasahara e;opjfopdjof so cute. I love everything about them; how they are practically the same person, how Doujou clearly cares about her even though he's really bad at showing it, and how their relationship at this point is almost nonexistent because both of them are DUMB AT FEELINGS.

Man, why is this thing so fucked up? First you kill Kouki (DH:AWROPFUOPFHGJ favorite character bites the dust), and now you're screwing around with Kouki's son. Nuh uh, you do not go there, and for some reason I felt a little thrill of amusement when Rin turned into propeller fodder.

I really don't like this show.

I am, however, intrigued by Rin's phone call with the Angel. If that is Kouki I will sing Hallelujahs and PRAISE BE TO THE LORDs or something, seriously, I ship Kouki/Rin so bad. But he got incinerated by that creepy blonde, so I suppose it isn't him. I DON'T CARE ABOUT RIN'S EMO BACKSTORY (I care even less about Mimi's newfound lesbian obsession), GIVE ME KOUKI BAACCKCKKFlgkhgghh

I can't figure out whether this show is trying to be feminist or whether it's objectifying women to a degree that most anime can only dream of. I'm leaning towards the latter.

If anyone needs to contact me, the best way to do so is by sending me a text message. I'm barely checking my e-mail until I'm caught up with everything else. I check my phone neurotically on weekdays, and as far as I know, replies using Livejournal will be sent to your e-mail address.

For the most part I've been avoiding computers, television, and anything else that requires me to stare at artificial light for too long. My mouth is in an epic state of disarray (you really don't want to know -- it doesn't stop at wisdom teeth is all I'm saying), so my entire head hurts more often than not. On top of this, I have an entire year's worth of choir rehearsal to get up to speed with, not to mention my director is somehow expecting me to come up with solo and duet pieces before June 7th. This is all ignoring my sore throat and that fscking job, mind.

The worst case scenario has me mostly incommunicado (previous arrangements excepted) until I've had my three-four remaining dentist appointments and no longer feel like there is an anvil constantly whacking at my head.

For those of you awaiting some sort of contact or response from me, I'm spending the next two days catching up, as I had no time this weekend. Expect something from me...eventually, augh. I swear I brush my teeth, ugghhh cavities just love me I guess.

So, the moral of the story is: I have no right to decide what I like. Furthermore, only through exhaustive and thorough contemplation of basic economic theory can one function properly in society. Only people with bachelor's degrees in Economics have any chance at all at succeeding in life, because only then can one understand the fundamental workings of society and people. Never mind that Sociology is the study of the fundamental workings of society and people, not Econ. Never mind that most professors and doctors probably weren't Econ majors in college, and I'll wager they're pretty successful socially. And even, God forbid, economically.

You know, I didn't really come home to be fed with complete nonsense, nor to be repeatedly told that I am not humble enough because I don't find the idea of doing economics for the rest of my life particularly enchanting. There are jobs - respectable jobs, even! - that don't require degrees in Economics. If you want to dictate my life just say so. Stop disclaiming everything you say with "Oh, but of course I'm not forcing you," because by getting on my case about this every day of the week and threatening to cut off my tuition, you are! Don't try to pass this all off as sagely advice, especially when you don't make a lick of sense.

Hiatus. I have a job during the afternoons, and aside from that am being chastised every waking moment for having hobbies, for spending "too much time" with Glee Club, for and not liking econ. GOD FORBID I DISLIKE SOMETHING FOR WHICH YOU ONLY TOOK ONE COURSE IN COLLEGE. Will you PLEASE remove that stick from your ass and start talking Earth logic?

Hi! My name is Charlotte. I just took a final and will be taking another tonight because I am a masochist. I am incapable of coherent thought. If you, for any reason, would like to tell me (reasons would be nice) who to vote for in the primary elections for the whoosits and whatsits and supreme court judges and thingymobobs on this ballot thing I just got in the mail, I would appreciate your input. If left to my own devices, I would pick based on whichever name sounded the least like a goose honking if I were to say it aloud, which is a dumb way to play pick-the-politician by any standard.

Ha. I am having a godawful week.

On the bright side, (a) Toshokan Sensou is bloody amazing and by far my favorite series of this season and Menclave is subbing it (thank GOD), and (b) I got Glee Gum for being an officer, delivered to my door because I didn't feel like walking to Willits in heels.

If you're not watching Toshokan Sensou / Library War / that show about the librarians with guns, START because you are missing out on a hell of a lot. Three episodes are subbed (and I rec Menclave's subs if only because I've watched the others and don't...particularly like the phrasing, or the translation errors) and it's AWESOME and AMAZING and you should watch ~~and ship Doujou/Kasahara~~.

This series is so messed up I don't know why I'm still watching it. jkdjf; I mean, so the premise of the show is totally insane, I realize this. Not many normal people consent to watching shows about time spores that make women invincible and men ~Angels~, with the catch that Angels (a) make the invincible women really horny, and (b) eat the women???. And then you have some weird INTELLIGENCE LADY who doesn't accept money as payment, so there's random gratuitous lesbian sex that serves really no purpose whatsoever. Not even to mention the creepy spore-eating boku boy. If you really sit back and think about it, Mnemosyne is pretty retarded.

Especially now that Kouki is dead. a;sd;jrpifopjf;g I ADMIT IT, OKAY, I shipped him with Rin lalala I know, not possible, human and invicilady, yadda yadda, I shipped it anyway. But omg epwruopfiof when he turned himself into an Angel with his wife's brother's spore to save Rin pwropfporjf and then LETS GO OF HER while he's still in control of his senses so he doesn't end up EATING HER and;sod- -- -fjf THERE WERE LITTLE HINTS OF TEARS through the absurdity, I SWEAR. auuuuughh and his son being all "When's Daddy coming back?"

1. I'm going to NTNU in the summer for a six-week Chinese immersion program for compatriots abroad, sponsored by the Taiwanese government. I've performed there :D It'll be nice to see it as a five-foot tall person! I was four and three quarters then, I think.
2. Before that, I'll be in Tokyo for a week.
3. Before that, I'm working as a TA at a local Chinese language school.
4. I am bleeding in my pants. Why, yes, you did need to know this.
5. I'm STARVING. x_X
6. I hate it when people are unavailable and don't warn me beforehand.
7. Glee Club rehearsal drained any brainpower, energy, or will to live I had going in. I'm going to have to do this problem set on primal instinct alone.
8. The fire alarms have gone out twice in the past few days. Once, because some inconsiderate jerk (a visiting MUN student) pulled it at 4:30am, and the second time, for a fire drill at 2:30am.
9. My iPod really hates me right now.

Was tagged by encrypt for a sur...vey? Well, it's something. I wrote out these answers last night while waiting for my roommates to shut up so I could go to bed.

1. If your boyfriend/girlfriend cheated on you, what will your reaction be?
I'd have been prepared for it from the start. I would be a nightmare of a girlfriend, which is why I don't bother. Also, whoever the poor sod was would have to be pretty secure or just, like, not in check with reality, because I am super super not prone to showing affection, even if I like you. You all... have noticed that the extent of my affection-showing over the Internet is "♥," right?

IRL, signs of affection are pretty much nonexistent (though I guess I jump on hazelnutti a lot, but that's because she's like. just sort of there to be jumped on? KARA PILE). I don't do hugs, I flinch/dodge when touched, and I swear the last time I kissed someone was like when I was 11 and my grandmother MADE ME do it.

2. What will you do if you do not share the same feelings as the person who likes you?
Be really sorry about it, but that's the full extent of it. I don't really do the "give it a try" thing, especially since most of the time the other party doesn't even know me. This'll probably change in grad school... for now, I am attracted to approximately 0% of the student body on the grounds that they all have vaginas.

3. What will your dream wedding be like?
Like the one my parents had! The type where you go into a Los Angeles courthouse and toss some signatures onto paper and voila, finished. :P (See? It's in my blood.)

4. Are you confused as to what lies ahead of you?
Isn't everyone, to some degree?

5. What's your ideal boyfriend/girlfriend like?
Like me! But quieter! And male! And at least six years older (okay, fine, this is bendable but people who are younger than me scare me)! Who have to wear suits to work. :P

Not failing out of college. I don't really have any goals. I'm only in college because my parents said I should be, and I think I'd be a bad Asian person if I didn't at least get up to a Masters.

HIGHLIGHT: I lied! I lied! Uh, Haar and Jill do marry! It's just... implied vaguely; you can only get the husband ending for Jill if you A support her with Haar.

The only pairs who can get endings at all: Ike and Soren, Ike and Ranulf, Haar and Jill, Geoffrey and Elincia, Lucia and Bastian, Naesala and Leanne, Sothe and Micaiah, Mist and Boyd. This makes me so ridiculously, insanely happy, haha. Oh man.

The new anime season looks more interesting than not! Some titles I'm hoping to follow:

Glass Maiden (Crystal Blaze)
I like the art, ShinMiki voices the lead, there's a drag queen, and it's a detective story. Instant sell! The characters seem to be cardboard cut-outs, but I'm used to that.

I like what little I've seen of the manga, I'm shallow, and, well, I'm shallow. Just look at that art.

I admit it - I'm only considering this because of the voice cast. Yusa Kouji is my new drug. My God, Sasazuka Eishi, where would I be without you.

I am not caught up with Gundam 00, but I think I know what happened (confirm and I'll be mildly upset, so don't) via f-list reactions, and I... uh, dunno, withholding judgment until I'm certain I'm right. Not going to get caught up till I'm back at school, though, because FIRE EMBLEM~ A WII~ FIRE EMBLEM~~~

I realize the entire point of coming back to SoCal should be to enjoy the NOT-HORRIBLE weather, but Wii >>> weather, and besides I get enough exercise at school sprinting up and down four flights of stairs everyday, so I can be a couch potato for a week, right? Situation like this being: in classes with no relevance to my major, whatever the hell my major is. I do not cope well with academic freedom. Adviser meetings are way too one-sided here. I've only changed my mind about a thousand and forty times since enrolling in college, but right now I'm leaning towards a double major in History and Statistics, minor in Enviro Sci. Stats is my safety blanket. :( If no grad school wants me I'll just make a vain attempt to pull at alumnae strings and get my ass into Goldman-Sachs. Don't dwell too much on that, though, I'll probably want to double major in Dance and Biochem with a minor in Critical Social Thought next week.

❷ Why do you choose to add a person to your friendslist? Because they've added me. Sob. I'm one of those freakazoids that can't handle it if the Friends/Friend of numbers are uneven.

❸ Is your friendslist an actual list of people you consider friends, or more of a reading list?
It depends? A good number are people I consider friends, but then there are the people I barely know who I read anyway.

❹ How often do you read your friendslist? HAHAHA. If I tell you I haven't read my friends list for x days, take for granted that I am lying through my teeth. I read really fast - speedreading and speedtyping are quite possibly my only useful talents - so catching up with the f-list is a cinch. And believe me, I do it all the time. The translation of 「ここで僕らは出会ってしまった」 has me doing quiet victory dances... on the inside. I'd be giggling my face off were I in my own room, though. It's a beautifully apt translation for a charmingly simplistic song -- I approve, on all counts. I mean, I approved mightily of Tezuka and Fuji covering an ending theme (which happens often with... shoujo manga and romantic pairings, haha), but they have their own lyrics now!

My God, guys, this pairing just fills me with so much affection. Sou and Mashiro wrench my heart out of my chest and twist it as they will, Ike and Soren make me giggle at the sub(main)text, and Seth and Eirika make me pine desperately and fruitlessly for something that will clearly never happen, but oh, Tezuka and Fuji. You guys have done all of that and so much more.

I never really made a reaction post to the ending of Prince of Tennis, because, well, let's be honest: I'd stopped following it. But for everyone who's known me since mid-2005: you know what this pairing has done to me. You've seen it with your eyes (some of you moreso, as I unwittingly dragged nearly all my RL friends into the fray). Perhaps some of you have seen it with your HEARTS (for anyone that I shamelessly ignored in the pursuit of More TezuFuji: I'm sorry). I went all-out for this fandom. For two long years, all I thought about was how I could somehow make the so-called "TezuFuji Fandom Experience" better for not just me, but people who I thought cared about the pairing half as much as I did.

Most of the people who are coming to mind now (my mental database of "TezuFuji fans") are no longer in the fandom, which saddens me greatly. I don't have a clue who the new set of TezuFuji fans are, nor do I think they know who the hell I am, and that makes me sad, too, because the part of me that still loves this pairing deeply wants to be surrounded by that enthusiasm again. lamplighter and the fanart directory are just about the only ties I have left with the fandom -- you don't know how difficult this is for me to accept.

So I guess all I really want to say here is that this song is making me cry. I feel like a massive fantard and I suspect non-shippers are laughing their asses off at me as I type, but the song captures my feelings for the pairing as I stand now so incredibly well that I can't help but be a little emotional about it.

Even if I do have microecon lecture in fifteen minutes. Sob. Before I leave, one last note: Thank you. NOTE: If you're more caught up than I am, good for you. Spoil me AT ALL - give me any hints at ALL about what happens next, and I won't speak to you for at least two months. I'm not watching a whole lot of anything anymore. At least give me the fucking chance to enjoy what I AM watching. Also, anime club was a failure. I have never seen such a truly robust concentration of weeaboo in my entire life. Fact: aside from this chick who just didn't looked like she was partial to showering, Kit and I were the only Asians present. Sound ominous? IT WAS. I'm not saying that only Asians can be fans, but it always creeps me the fuck out when a school has a reasonably substantial Asian population and none in the anime club. Because let's face it, 50% of Taiwanese kids grow up reading Japanese manga. Nearly EVERY ABC I know with decent grades that goes to this school is interested in manga.

We fled before they even started showing shit. This creepy ass girl on my hall who always stops and stares at me when I walk by was there, staring at us. We're not even talking about the disorganized LARP that was going on as we got in.

eta: We chatted about Asian fetishists after fleeing the premises. Honestly, people who elevate Asians to practically deity status are the creepiest, scariest people in the world. It's SO SCARY. And precisely why I do not want to take Asian language classes in the States.
